and today we celebrate the earth
I spent an afternoon looking at the grass. Watched it sway back and forth, pulled by the wind. Compressed by footsteps, only to rise again. Some of it yellowed by the sun. Some of it was thinning and beginning to flake. The grass, all of it, is sustained by water. I thought, “This is me, I am grass. I was yellow and thinning once. Parts of me have flaked away into the dark and I’m constantly moving, feeling tonnage upon me at times. And then there’s you, an anomaly of sorts. A glistening star, here on earth. You are my water.”
